Centers on a young girl who has been murdered and watches over her family - and her killer - from heaven. She must weigh her desire for vengeance against her desire for her family to heal.
I wanted to finish the book first before watching the movie. My thoughts about the movie:
- It was good that the director decided to start the movie with the scenes where Susie was still alive. It showed what she’s like. It highlighted Susie’s short life, her family and her young love for Ray.
- Props to Mark Wahlberg (Jack Salmon), Saoirse Ronan (Susie Salmon) and Stanley Tucci (Mr. Harvey) and Susan Sarandon (Grandma Lynn). They did a really good job!
- The hatch, the cornfield and the meeting of the girls that Mr. Harvey murdered was exactly how I imagined it to be.
- The special effects was OK. Some of it were a little too artificial but it worked.
- As a whole, the movie captured the essence of the book but the story from the book is very very different from the movie. But as I have said, I did not expect much because a book is different from a movie.
- The important details like Abigail Salmon and Len Fenerman’s affair, the downfall of Jack and Abigail’s marriage, Buckley growing up, Lindsay’s relationship with Sam, Susie and Ray’s intimate moment in the last part, the returning of the charm from the bracelet to her father and last but definitely not the least,THE HOSPITAL SCENE.
- The hospital scene of Abigail and Jack Salmon is missing! That made me cry in the book. I was a bit disappointed that the director decided to change that part. I think that it was that scene where the Salmon family finally healed and moved on.
I recommend everyone who loved the movie to read the book. You will love it more. I think that the way they changed the story kind of took away the touching parts from the book but nonetheless, the movie was beautiful at its own little way.
