In Harlem, an overweight, illiterate teen who is pregnant with her second child is invited to enroll in an alternative school in hopes that her life can head in a new direction.

I am not so crazy about this movie. The story was very touching yes, but it’s too typical for my taste. Good thing the simple story turned out to be a masterpiece because of the outstanding performances of Gabourey Sidibe (Precious), Mo’Nique (Mary) and Paula Patton (Ms. Rain). Mo’Nique indeed deserves to win that Best Supporting Actress award in the recently concluded Oscars.
